Kyiv Apartment for an Art Collector by Yevheniia Dubrovska.

Designed by Yevheniia Dubrovska for an art collector, this apartment in the historical centre of Kyiv plays both main character and supporting role to the art itself. Inside, walls of the entire apartment are covered with works from young artists spanning the globe.

High ceilings and irregular room shapes created plenty of opportunity for Dubrovska to play with the design. White walls are interspersed with brilliant splashes of wall-to-ceiling blue while a curved timber insertion acts as a buffer between spaces. In the living room, a more traditional tact was taken with ceiling mouldings recreated. Together with curtains, wooden window portals and large canvases the interiors’ correct proportions were preserved.

Functionally, the apartment is divided into two zones — a public one with a living room, a kitchen, an office, a guest room and a laundry room; and a master area with a large bedroom, a wardrobe and a bathroom. The kitchen links common and private areas while also having access to the office space through a specifically designed door.

An impressive array of the clients own vintage furniture fills the apartment, sourced throughout Europe. Right at home amongst the clients favourite vintage finds, stained glass windows follow an Art Deco pattern achieved with the correction of the shape of an arch in the wall. In the bathroom a big beautiful window streams daylight in with a clever addition of a movable mirror for privacy when it’s shower time.

Classic, vintage and minimalist elements manage to all live comfortably under one roof, taking a backseat to the main event — the art.
