Works of Sobriety: Studio Haos Debuts Fourth Collection at Love House.

Studio Haos returns with their long-awaited fourth collection ‘Works of Sobriety’. The Paris & Lisbon-based design studio, run by Sophie Gelinet and Cédric Gepner, will present the new collection at the eclectic New York showroom Love House from April 28th.

Through ten simple forms, the new collection seeks to elevate humble materials—such as plywood and sheet metal—in the construction of considered objects and structures. With form favoured over matter, each piece in the series sets an honest tone, stripped down but thought-out, austere yet playful.

The collection includes two chairs, a square table, a wall cabinet, a bookshelf, a screen divider, a bedside table, a wall light, a table lamp, and a floor lamp. Gelinet and Gepner took cues from traditional Japanese architecture, where harmony emerges from the geometric juxtaposition of contrasting materials, simply slid in a visible structure. Highlighting the heritage of minimalist art as well as 20th-century modernist-informed design, the resulting objects are meant to convey feelings of warmth, orderliness and structure.

Presented at Love House, the typically open concept store has reinvented the presentation of its showroom for Haos through the creation of four intimate spaces that serve as thoughtful atmospheres for the simple works.

The previously Paris-based studio has made the move to Lisbon, where they’ve invested in a large-scale workshop. This newfound independence allows the brand to conduct its work with a greater sense of fluidity, inspiring them to engage with their method in more spontaneous ways.

Looking ahead, the duo believes an aesthetic of sobriety has the potential to provide keys for the future, and hopes to set an example for new ways of thinking and producing the furniture we live with.
