Free Spirit: Fattoria Sant’Eliseo Farm Shop in Udine by Visual Display.

Interior design and branding studio Visual Display has devised an unconventional interior for Fattoria Sant’Eliseo, a farm produce shop in Udine, Italy. Inspired by the company motto ‘Free spirit farm’, the unexpected interior has a distinctly ‘pop’ feeling, avoiding all rustic stereotypes in favour of daring colours and bold shapes.

The space itself is versatile and multifunctional, changing according to the needs of the day. Neutral coloured architectural finishes such as micro-terrazzo and textured walls wrap the interior, acting as a subtle reminder of the natural world. At its centre, colours and shapes come to life—a large mirrored PVC curtain with a curved pattern delimits the office station from the living area. The mirroring material reflects and distorts the surroundings, creating an interesting effect of colours and shapes in motion. Inside, various objects animate the space, each with its own idiosyncrasies, creating a series of special and unexpected settings.

Visible from outside through large windows is a lounge area, inspired by the great outdoors. Here a sofa with a metal frame and upholstery inspired by birds is flocked by a vintage designer armchair and a couple of contrasting coffee tables, playing with the contrast between mass and lightness. Next to this is a custom-designed meeting table surrounded by blue Klein seats, with glossy purple display units set at an angle on the walls displaying books, paintings and a variety of little objects.

Behind a high arch, with a metaphysical flavour, is an all-green service area. One whole wall in the space is dedicated to the representation of the company’s philosophy, with a screen projecting live images of the farm and a display of posters, photographs and paintings.

In applying pop art to the rural setting, the farm shop in Giorgio di Bernardo of Visual Displays words is “a hymn to freedom, creativity, colour and nature.”
