With the increasing chatter of the VR world, NFT’s and our growing ‘online’ presence, Uchronia and Antoine Billore meet IRL to remind us all of the beauty of our oceans, highlighting the species that roam our seabed as well as alerting us to those that are disappearing.

The Wave collection by Uchronia resembles anemones, starfish and more, made by French craftspeople from materials such as raku, marble stucco and wood marquetry. The new designs are combined with a selection of works by contemporary French artists and craftspeople, all surrounded by a compilation of ceramic fish lamps from the famous Vallauris workshops of yesteryear.

The notion of meta is explored in analogue form, through the display of hundreds of ceramic fish and shells, the sides carved to reveal hundreds of others living inside. These vintage pieces from Vallauris, meticulously assembled by vintage dealer Billore, form a surreal backdrop for the new pieces, designed by Uchronia alongside friends and collaborators Jouffre, Prelle, Fabienne L’Hostis, Joséphine Pelletier, David Roma, Bruno Hugounenq, Fabienne L’Hostis, Elsa Da Silva and Joséphine Pelletier.

The star of the show is the standout Wavy Table, consisting of an amorphous slab of green and orange onyx bordered by a startling purple glitter resin border, two seemingly disparate materials that act to enhance rather than detract from each other. Also in the collection is the Bisous Bench topped by a vintage ceramic lighthouse lamp sourced by Billore; the Bisous Stools finished in lustrous resin including a special edition glitter version, a unique textile piece inspired by the gravity-defying lines of seaweed that sits somewhere between curtain and fibre art, created by the famed Jouffre workshops with fabrics by Prelle, the Sunny Chairs, tufted mirrors in the shape of starfish and sea urchins by Joséphine Pelletier and a luminous crochet jellyfish made by Elsa Da Silva.

In a world where everything is digital, Uchronia makes a statement—warning of the consequences of our actions on marine ecosystems and the death of traditional skills.
