Described as an “experiment”, Top Lab Interiors has transformed this rental apartment in Kyiv through an unusual colour palette and materiality. Blocks of primary colours create a distinct and striking interior while adhering to a strict budget.
Blessed with a willing client, with memorable quotes such as this—“I don’t like this green, but I like to trust you! Therefore, I am ready to rely on you and take a risk,” the studio infused the space with vibrant hues and bright accents to create an atypical home.
In the entrance hall, a bold blue sliding door harmonises with a matching tile grout. Wide grout lines emphasise the contrast with the white tiles, adding an industrial touch to the design. The tiles follow into the kitchen, acting as a splashback to the attention-stealing green joinery. With timber floorboards and neutral furniture, including a sandy-shaded rug and white couch, the designer contrasts the bright kitchen with curtains in a rich royal blue, to help balance the space.
In the bathroom, the distinct design language continues with a red sink and translucent yellow glass shower screen matching the grid of white tiles and blue grout. Sitting adjacent, the wardrobe is fixed with a polycarbonate plastic door.
The bedroom, in contrast, embraces a calmer atmosphere with warm-toned walls, and cosy textiles, alongside a blue shelf and red wardrobe to link to the overarching design concept.
By embracing experimentation with colour, material, and architectural details, the team has transformed a rental apartment into a unique and fun living space—proving that sometimes, you need to take a risk.
