Archie Cot is available in four colourways. Australian nursery furniture brand Tasman Eco has partnered with Sydney-based innovator Defy Design to create something rather special—the Archie Cot, the world’s first baby cot crafted entirely from 100% recycled plastic. This ground-breaking collaboration is a direct response to the challenge of creating sustainable nursery furniture that doesn’t compromise on safety or aesthetics. The Archie Cot emerged after a year of intensive research, development, and rigorous testing to meet Australia’s strict safety standards.“It’s a challenge to constantly be creative in a space that is highly regulated, there isn’t too much movement in what a cot can look like,” explains John Zakharia of Tasman Eco. “When we first learnt of Defy, we reached out expecting a no to our brief, but they jumped at the opportunity.” Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 04 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 05 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 06 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 08 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 07 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 09 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 03 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 01 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 12 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 10 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 11 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 15 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 16 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 13 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 17 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 18 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 22 Yellowtrace Tasman Eco Defy Design Archie Cot Recycled Plastic Australian Design 24 What makes the Archie Cot particularly innovative is its clever construction. Defy Design’s Head of Production, Oliver Kleyn, shares an interesting detail about their approach: “The key challenges were certainly building a solid cot frame that could remain solid amongst all of the different conversion capabilities, plus cutting the cot from one sheet of recycled plastic, as a means to keep waste as low as possible.”The design team focused on longevity, ensuring the cot could adapt and grow with the child. This sustainability-minded approach extends beyond materials to the product’s entire lifecycle. “We had to ensure that the life of the product could be extended beyond what is currently normal for a cot,” notes Zakharia, highlighting the importance of its conversion capabilities.Made to order in Sydney with an 8-12 week lead time, the Archie Cot comes in four colourways.
