Washes of reds, pinks and white are rhythmically stitched together inside DC.AD and Mariana Peralta-designed SUN TAN Noodle Soup Restaurant in Bairro das Colonias, Lisbon, Portugal. Centralising on Asian inspired cuisine, the interior is instilled with eye-catching near-colour blocking techniques, ready to welcome hungry guests to feast against an energetic backdrop.Occupying approximately 70 square metres of space, SUN TAN is located on the ground floor of a 1930s Art Deco building. The external façade is clad in red bricks with some painted white was left untouched, while the internal existing walls were demolished for a ‘natural fluidity’ in circulation.Taking advantage of existing ceiling heights, the architects thoughtfully centralised the kitchen area at the lowest point and the main dining experience towards the highest. Programs are deliberately pushed towards the border of the linear space – creating a thoroughfare between the entrance and patio space located at the back. The bathroom, in contrast, is tucked inside the thick walls opposite the kitchen. Related: Biggy Fast Food Restaurant in Wroclaw, Poland by BUCKSTUDIO. Small tiles cover the interior space, although, to avoid an overpowering of red-amber effect, only the half in which the dining space dominates is covered in red while the kitchen side is assembled with white. The sectioning of the colour scheme allows the architects to create harmony and a fitting ambience during the day (which is filled with white light) and night (in which the restaurant is diffused with a bold red). Both patterns interlock geometrically together within the bathroom area.Tiles aside, additional textures from the fixtures and the patio compliments SUN TAN’s character. “Glossy Ferrari-red” metal lamps, tables, and washbasin glisten in the light. The garden space rendered in a matte red is softly balanced by blocks of pink; with lush deep green plants to offer a complimentary release from the vibrant atmosphere. An interior with an extroverted personality is what allows SUN TAN to function as a flexible space. Seeing red alright – plus it’s an appetising one. Related: Costa Brava Weekend House in Torres Novas, Portugal by DC.AD. [Images courtesy of DC.AD.
