After five years of international experience, Studio NOJU founders (pronounced as NOt-JUst) Antonio Mora and Eduardo Tazón proudly debut with their project dubbed House SV01. A vibrant home that confidently redefines the parameters of domestic programs, House SV01 offers another potential of flexible arrangement within apartments without the necessity for hard boundaries.Located in a historically rich neighbourhood of Triana in Seville, Spain, House SV01 is a renovation of an old sixty-square-metre two-room apartment. The architects sensing the restrictions of the existing ‘programmatic structure’ inspired them to weave ‘a common language of textures, materials’ and aesthetically happy colour blocking. The simplicity of the arrangement catalysed a series of flexible perimeters, breathing new life into the space that offers a transformation from two to five rooms.Inside, bright cool tones pulled from the cityscape are used to define frequently used or shared programs. Each space seems to be monochromatically categorised through a bold colour-blocked statement wall and matching curtains. Against the white rendered ceiling, floors and walls re tabbed with sky blue curtains to create an additional guest room when necessary; curry leaf green to demarcate the kitchen; and childhood yellow for a friendly dining room and storage area. White curtains are also conveniently placed nearby the storage spaces to create the illusion of larger space. Beyond the textiles and smooth walls, language of the constantia folds from the curtains are thoughtfully reflected within the feature walls within the study, dining, and bathroom as well – almost like the entire apartment is made of pockets of gathered fabric.By using soft boundaries, House SV01 allows for openness and expanse at the users’ will without encroaching on the existing boundaries. Clever and captivating, this is a self-introduction that perfectly summarises Spanish creative practice’s principles – an environment ready to welcome and collaborate with other creatives.
