In a time when design trends come and go, we’re thrilled to share a home that has an enduring, timeless quality. Enter FY Residence in Sydney’s Lower North Shore which has been lovingly crafted by Studio Liu. Rich in character and oh-so-sophisticated, this home is a true reflection of the client’s vision for their space to evolve gracefully alongside them.Inspired by the diverse landscape surrounding the home, the design seamlessly combines materials, tones and textures that reflect nature’s beauty. The combination of Carrara and Calacatta marble, Galassia limestone, dark timbers, and bronze accents may seem eclectic, yet they coexist harmoniously. The interplay of these materials, coupled with meticulous detailing, creates a balance that is both expressive and restrained.Landscape as Protagonist: Adelaide Villa by Mim Design. This grand Victorian Villa gets a thoughtful contemporary addition, drawing lush pockets of landscape into the experience of the home... Alongside bold gestures of full-height stone walls, some subtle details are utterly joyous. A gentle curve can be found in the delicate detailing of the living room joinery, staircase balustrade and bronze towel rail. The integration of bronze as a screen, tapware, lighting, and bookcase structure not only enhances the space but also unifies the various materials together.“The sinuous curve of the stair handrail echoed the fluidity of water’s edge,” explains design studio founder, Louise Liu, “while ancient old stone landscapes were told through the monolithic stone forms.” Connection to the natural surroundings is further emphasized by the vertical bronze accents that mirror the bronzed bark of neighbouring trees, creating a harmonious link between the built environment and its natural context.Bischoff Residence in Vaucluse, Sydney by Tom Mark Henry & Un-Fold Architecture.Material choices and structural statements exemplify an effective unison of form and function throughout this Vaucluse home... The project also reflects a deep understanding of the client’s desire for their art collection to take centre stage within their home. They sought lots of display opportunities, not only for hanging art on walls but also for showcasing pieces within corridors and on elevated shelves. These thoughtfully crafted spaces accommodate both present and future art collections, using materials that will gracefully patina over time.Studio Liu’s approach to interior design prioritises thoughtful curation over fleeting trends. By advocating for meaningful design and encouraging clients to invest in long-lasting materials and furnishings, the studio aims to reduce waste and minimise landfill impact while creating spaces filled with character and depth.Subtle Fluidity Meets Rigorous Precision at Hawthorn East Residence by Adrian Amore Architects.Fluid design elements are thoughtfully integrated with the existing Edwardian architecture in this Melbourne home...
