A dental practice in Rennes, France has undergone a complete transformation, with the space reimagined through a residential lens. Designed by Danya Idilbi of Studio Idya, it’s a refreshing take on an often drab and stringent area of interior design.A fairly new player on the design scene, Danya has been working in the field in various Parisian architecture agencies since 2014 before founding her own practice in 2022. She designs functional spaces with creativity, imagining daring mixes of materials and colours to make her projects unique.Although regulations had to be considered, above all, the focus of this design was on the wellbeing of both patient and practitioner. The studio looked to counter the aseptic and often maligned image of a dental practice by conceptualising it as a house or an apartment.Treatment rooms are designed as cosy bedrooms, the waiting room acts as a lounge room, the sterilisation room is imagined as an experimental bathroom, and the staff room is a welcoming kitchen for colleagues to have a chat.Impress Milano Dental Clinic by Raul Sanchez Architects. This genre-bending dentist office in Milan promises to make those bi-yearly visits a little more fun. A walnut shade of timber warms up the entrance, while in the dentist’s lab, stainless steel is introduced in a space-age reference to the instruments used. White was curtailed for beige to soften the visual impact of the ensemble.Large glass brick walls and windows between rooms allow light to subtly seep in and the colour palette to blend cohesively while maintaining privacy for patients. Furniture and accessories add a homely depth to the spaces with a 70’s tilt in a mix of vintage and colourful designs, matched with pops of pigment on the walls from baby blue in the lab, green and cream in the waiting room and a strikingly yellow tiled kitchen.A simple idea executed well, this dental practice challenges the norms of healthcare design, making the usually rigid and restrained spaces more accessible. The Urban Dentist in Berlin by Studio Karhard.Rather than dread your next dental check-up, this clinic uses colour and texture over the sterile white surfaces often associated with dental anxiety...
