This heritage apartment sits on the top floor of a beautiful late 18th century building. Finely detailed historical references define the façade. A warm yellow colour covers the walls. The authentic well-proportioned space features perfectly sized rooms with many beautiful doors, tall timber ceilings, window shutters and brass handles – these were just some of the details the architects were keen to maintain.

The homogenous and uniform concrete becomes a unifying platform upon which the rest of the finishes unfold, juxtaposing the timber ceiling full of character.

The windows, large and equal in size are distributed evenly on three sides of the apartment. Natural light enters the northern rooms uniformly and constantly, colouring the air blue. The elegance of a large moving shadow warms up the rooms facing the east and the south.

The soft and vertical grain of the elm timber welcoming the visitors at the entrance. The same finish reappears in the library and in the kitchen. A beautiful and precious material for its colour, its texture and the way it ages, acting as the perfect bridge between the neutral concrete and warm timber ceiling.

Beautiful job – I love old buildings that are respected, preserved and transformed into the perfect balance of old and new.
