Headed up by Aurélien Raymond and Costanza Rossi, Paris-based Studio Akademos has blown onto the scene with a new decadent furniture collection. The collection takes us on an experiential journey through some unmistakable periods from the twentieth century, revamped with a contemporary eye for functionality.

After meeting at Studio Casiraghi in 2019, the duo bonded over a shared vision and have been bringing it to life ever since. Their aesthetic is defined by the connection between three distinct universes—Café Society’s heyday, its lavish parties and receptions, the glamour and avant-garde of the 1970s and our own times and a distinct focus on perpetual research for practicality in use.

Made of sensual, luxurious materials each design is a tour-de-force of and craftsmanship and detailing.

“Our work is always based on a concrete study of the eras we are basing our aesthetic on,” explain Raymond and Rossi. “Nothing is left to chance and we constantly make a point of justifying the existence of every single element constituting our interiors as well as our furniture pieces.”

Handmade by the finest Italian craftsmen, each piece is named after an icon as glamorous as the next from Scott Fitzerald, Princess Ira Von Fürstenberg, the infamous Barbara Hutton and Elsa Schiaparelli. The dup opted for high-gloss lacquered American walnut in deep brown hues, paired with luxurious Loro Piana cashmere to evoke the memory of Café Society’s heyday and lavish parties. While the shining satin stainless steel and the polished brass conjure the glamour of the 1970s and the final piece is the ease of use, bringing the collection firmly into the 21st century.
