State of Kin has crafted more of an experience than merely an interior for this hair salon in Perth, reflecting the energy of the brand and creating a lasting impression of fun for all visitors. The visual theme borrows stylistic references from Postmodernism and Memphis design movements, with bold pattern, colour, texture, light and materials that coalesce in a graphic and effervescent space. The existing premise featured industrial bones—exposed services, concrete ceilings and floors, and typical glazed shop front facades. Rather than conceal or work against this, the studio layered more steel and glass into the fit-out in a variety of textures and finishes.A sculptural reception desk and retail display in varied steel textures and shapes frame the entry. The industrial silver and metallic finishes are offset by a bold red wall and a sheer nude drape. Vibrant blue arches separate welcoming and waiting from wash stations and these are then separated from the cutting and styling zone thanks to a glossy rose-pink screen with scalloped edges. Reception, retail and coffee stations are highlighted with rich chromatic bursts. The central workspaces are kept sleek and crisp to reflect buzzing movement and activity. Perforated steel mesh provides a continuous language throughout, used as screening between spaces, to obscure and conceal while throwing interesting light and shadow across surfaces. The layered shades of pink and red represent the identity of the Circles brand amongst the metallic tones and pops of electric blue.Graphic black and white terrazzo features in sculptural pieces, blue lined arches lead from the entry deeper into the space, the red hues highlight service areas while pink offers a softening touch. The result is an avant-garde, stylized and slick space with cuttingly sharp lines accentuated by sporadic injections of playful colour and gentle, rounded shapes.Mitch Salon Melbourne by Danielle Brustman. With yellow as the starting point, this new interior fit-out utilises varying shades of the colour across a range of materials including glass, timber and tile...
