Serena Confalonieri has unveiled a new site-specific installation named Volée, set within the Teatro dei Ragazzi in Turin for the Nitto ATP Finals tennis tournament. Held as part of the Woodland art and design exhibition at LEA—Lead Exclusive Area, the installation explores the concept of nature.

“The aim of this project is to offer the visitor the experience of a ‘return to nature’, where humans free themselves from the effects of civilisation, and regain a condition of harmonious life regulated by instinct,” elaborates the designer.

The installation imagines a nature that invades the theatre’s foyer. A floral composition emerges and comes to life from polyurethane foam panels, made by PELMA.

The Italian designer uses polyurethane panels for the reception, the benches and the tables, all milled with a vertical motif that recalls classic columns. Dried plants and flowers sprout from the yellow and grey polyurethane foam elements.

The vegetation is a static and eternal element that takes possession of the architecture, operating halfway between fiction and reality. The natural elements are characterised by bright shades of lilac, purple, orange, yellow, white. Evoking lightness and grace, the soft curved shapes of this floral cloud recall the graceful and harmonious movements of tennis players on the court.
