We all know the Scandinavian design movement has been knocking it out of the park since the 50’s. What’s not to love about the clean lines and the natural finishes? The movement has always been about providing good quality design for all, not just the wealthy. Their architecture and furniture design is underpinned by two basic aspects – simplicity and minimalism. So it will come as no surprise that the latest bright new thing is Stockholm based designer Louise Liljencrantz. Recently launched, her new website showcases an impressive portfolio of work. Her projects meet all the requirements of beautiful Scandinavian design – they are simple and understated. But as with all beautiful, paired back interiors, her work is elegant and tasteful. She’s a fan of textures and has a keen eye for detail. What can sometimes happen with minimalistic spaces and neutral colour palettes is that the space feels cold and empty. But Liljencrantz’ work does not. Instead, her spaces feel calming and soothing, the way one feels walking into a well-appointed day spa. Sometimes being good at architecture or design means you have other latent talents, or your talent has grown from other branches. Louise’s years as a graphic designer are evident in the layered and textural designs she implements. She has a wonderful eye for matching materials and colours, showing just the right amount of restraint whilst not skimping on quality or material selection. So what gets her out of bed in the morning? What’s the mission she’s on? “…to transform the passion, emotions and unspoken codes that a person radiates into something physical – an environment that hopefully exceeds expectations,” says Liljencrantz. Her work has been a huge hit and unsurprisingly Liljencrantz’ business is rapidly expanding. Taking her skill in interiors to the next level, she now works with a team of skilled craftsmen to produce furniture and cabinetry. The combination of interiors and furniture design are endless. No doubt we will see her already impressive portfolio grow with it. [Images courtesy of Liljencrantz Design.
