Today we take a sneaky peek inside the Greenwich Village home of renowned art director Sam Shahid. Shahid’s provocative ad campaigns for Calvin Klein, Banana Republic and Abercrombie & Fitch stirred controversy throughout the ’80s and ’90s, paving the way for a more open-minded approach to branding and inspiring countless imitators drawn to his spare aesthetic.Similarly to his celebrated body of work, Shahid’s three-storey home is a triumph in simplicity. High ceilings, abundance of natural light and absence of colour set the scene for his impressive art and photography collection from the likes of Walker Evans and Larry Clark, Lee Friedlander and Warhol. Iconic furniture by Danish designer Poul Kjærholm act as both a functional object and mid-century sculpture, while stacks of prints and books speak of the creative’s 30 years spent in fashion and branding. This quietly beautiful home, the work of architect David Piscuskas, maintains a relaxed warmth whilst sticking to a minimalist code.
