Architects: Jacobsen Arquitetura Location: Laranjeiras, Brazil Year completed: 2014 Project Area: 470 m2 Photography: Pedro Kok Although built over two levels, Jacobsen Arquitetura have designed the RT Residence in Brazil, to appear like a compact and stylish bungalow. Using an optical illusion at the front of the house and warm natural materials that blend in with the surrounding garden, the lower level is half-buried underground. With the back opening onto big open green space and the coast, light floods through the open plan living space. The blocks were joined by a roof which also forms the overhang, creating a circulation space that – even when closed – it appears external. The living room touches the ground level and from the street the building is separated from the ground. Despite the mandatory use of a sloping roof and ceramic tiles, the house seems to have a flat roof, as from the outside one can only see the timber eaves and glass. The triangular pool had it’s shape determined by the boundaries of the building. Related Posts: Round-up of Smokin’ Hot Brazilian Architecture, Part I.
