In Rive Roshan‘s debut Australian solo exhibition, Internal Reflection, the Amsterdam-based designers and life partners Ruben de la Rive Box and Golnar Roshan showcase a new series of mesmerising functional art objects and shifting wall pieces.

The exhibition explores how the interplay between light and matter highlights the world’s intricacies to illuminate the colours and reflections we see. The duo hopes that highlighting the magic in our surrounding environment will make us more empathetic and considerate—as Ruben and Golnar articulate: “We believe that by living with objects that make you feel good and positive, you are influenced to make more mindful choices in life.”

Building on ongoing themes around ‘shifting perspectives’, including their exhibition Ordinary Miracles for Dutch Design Week in 2022, the studio continues to play with perception, curiosity and reflection. For ‘Internal Reflection’, Rive Roshan encourages viewers to open their minds to their surroundings in the hope of forming a path to connection.

“Imagine our minds as prisms, refracting the myriad of radiating colours that flow in through our eyes,” Ruben and Golnar elaborate, “we don’t just see objects—we witness the rebounding of light, shaping our internal world like coloured rays seeping into Plato’s Cave. These internal reflections can transcend time, projecting radiant memories”.

The exhibition debuts a new collection of tables, floor lights and panels by the studio. Three new ‘Radiance Tables’ offer functional art objects made of textured reflective glass, spreading and diffusing light like rippling water as you engage with them. The ‘Colour Shift Floor Lights’ bounce and reflect shimmering light, and a new range of ‘Radiance Panels’ colours showcase highly structured glass circles that absorb, animate, and emit light through an intricately coloured surface.

Striving to evoke literal internal reflection, Rive Roshan aims to colour perception with hope, optimism and empathy.

Internal Reflection runs until March 17th at Sydney’s Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert. For more information, click here.
