Plus One Berlin is one of the most interesting hotel concepts I’ve come across in a little while. Not only do I love it’s super-cool blend of vintage, salvaged and contemporary aesthetic, the hotel offers travellers the chance to meet a like-minded local for an insider experience.

The concept is the brainchild of Clare Freeman, former PR manager for the Design Hotels. Located in the up-and-coming area of Kreuzkölln, this single 1970s apartment was remodelled by Berlin-based architects Paola Bagna of Spamroom and JP Coss of CossA. The apartment can sleep up to three people.

Once you’ve made an online booking and paid the fixed rate, you are taken to a page where you can chose from the hotel’s network of 28 insiders with varying interests, lifestyles and professions. From there you can make a selection based on what you want to get out of your stay in the city, and decide if you’d like to meet your chosen person for a 30-minute session or reserve them as your ‘Plus One’ for three to five hours. As long as people don’t think this is a ‘Pretty Woman’ kind of service, right?

Anyway, this is such a fun and fresh approach to hospitality which takes concierge service to a whole new level, and makes your good ol’ Lonely Planet guide the thing of the past. Sign me up!
