The Village by Salvatori Welcomes a Small-scale Concept Home by Piero Lissoni.

Italian company Salvatori invited designers from around the world to reinterpret the concept of home within today’s global context for ‘The Village’ Collection. The result is an assembly of eclectic miniature houses that reflect a global village, connecting us through an extraordinary array of styles and approaches, all linked by natural stone.

The Lighthouse by Piero Lissoni is the latest addition. This diminutive piece is designed to accommodate a small candle, transforming it into a lighthouse. It is tall and slender, crowned by a pitched roof containing a pair of circular windows. Formed out of sandblasted Grigio Versilia marble with striking veining, it ranges from pure white to anthracite grey, interrupted by large asymmetrical windows that allow the light to flood in.

“I always start from an architectural standpoint, so for me, design is just architecture on a different scale,” elaborates Lissoni. “I tried to scale down the architecture even further so that it became a type of small model to construct a kind of ideal small town.”

Small but perfectly formed, the piece metaphysically captures the principles of a small town while highlighting the characteristics of stone through its shape.

The collection draws upon values and meanings, encompassing conviviality, the pleasure of the familiar and the understanding that our home represents not only a safe haven but a place where we can give full rein to our own personal aesthetics.

Designers such as Rodolfo Dordoni, Kengo Kuma, Elisa Ossino, John Pawson, Patricia Urquiola, Vincent Van Duysen and Yabu Pushelberg have also contributed to Salvatori’s burgeoning village.
