Sanctuary Lines is a new print collection that delves into the human need to create an oasis in our personal space. A need more evident than ever, the range is the latest in an ongoing collaboration between Nelson Bay-based textile & surface designer Patricia Braune and Materialised. Printed locally in Sydney on commercial grade fabric, wall coverings and roller blind substrates, the 11 hand-illustrated designs are available in numerous colourways.

As with all her designs, Patricia finds inspiration all around her. “Nature is always my starting point and for this collection, I explored the curves and shadows of contours in the sand, the dimensionality of woven grasses and the pliability of clay. All these textural elements play a role in bringing us back to earth, back to nature and back to ourselves,” she elaborates.

The designer brings her unique style to the series, the hand-illustrated collection evoking a sense of whimsical elegance and fragile beauty. Brazilian-born and brought up in South Africa, her journey has clearly influenced these charming, nature-inspired designs. Since launching her first range—Australian Lines—with Materialised in 2019, the partnership has produced a body of work that celebrates this variety seen within our environment.

For Sanctuary Lines, Patricia embraced the structures within our environment, in a series of striking designs. She explains: “Delving into the elemental architectural influences of arcs, curves, textures, hemisphere, and polarity resulted in 11 new designs. They encompass and transcend design influences and eras, yielding a calm sophistication.” Developed in parallel with a mosaic and natural stone tile range, the interior designers amongst us have the option of appointing visually cohesive pairings across both soft and hard mediums.

Materialised has been a stalwart in the Australian design market for over four decades. The Sydney-based business specialises in innovative and high functioning fabric, wall coverings, acoustic and art for both commercial and domestic designs.
