Dublin-based contemporary artist and light-sculptor designer, Niamh Barry, describes her work as “three-dimensional drawings in bronze and light”. Known for her interlocking bronze light sculptures, Barry’s greatest source of inspiration is the human form, which she explores through balance, movement and proportion.“It is not possible to pin down exact references for each particular piece but rather a lifetime of looking and seeing,” Barry elaborates. “The beauty in the movement of the human form, in embrace, in dance, in a still moment. The beauty of low winter light penetrating the branches of bare trees. I aspire to make work that transcends utility.”Her latest project, ‘Standing Monumental’ floor sculpture, debuted with Maison Gerard Gallery this month at New York’s leading design fair Salon Art + Design. The piece is a large free standing luminaire that triples as a sculpture, a light and a room divider.Niamh Barry Debuts a Limited-Edition Series of Small Scale Solid Bronze Works.
