Niamh Barry Limited Edition Soild Bronze Lighting Yellowtrace 01

Dublin-based contemporary artist and light sculptor, Niamh Barry, is known for her interlocking bronze light objects, centred on the concept of ‘the line’ – celebrating ideas of balance, movement and dynamism.

She recently debuted a limited-edition series of small scale works, comprising sculptural table lamps, pendants and wall lights, which depart from her usual design language.

“These new works are not so much a collection but a group of pieces that relate to each other because at their core is the same starting point, a 2000-year-old solid gold bronze age boat,” explains Barry.

Each piece is hand formed from solid bronze and patina.

“Over a two-year period, I explored these ‘hull’ forms in different iterations and these four pieces – one to hang, one for the wall and two to be placed as small sculptural pieces have emerged,” says Barry.

The exploration of these new forms results in objects that are visually ‘rooted to the ground’ as opposed to floating in the air, communicating ideas of weight, balance and gravitas.

Barry’s latest limited-edition pieces are also available to commission at custom sizes. For more information on the new collection, visit niamhbarry.com/new-works.
