Four Spa KAFD, the latest project by Saudi interior designer Nebras AlJoaib, exemplifies the fusion of local architectural history with contemporary aesthetics. Situated in the bustling King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, this 380sqm spa offers a tranquil escape amidst the urban landscape. The design is characterised by the use of refined materials and visceral textures, delivering a serene environment that resonates with modern finesse and subtle nods to Four Spa’s brand identity.

Nebras AlJoaib’s approach involved a thoughtful blend of materials and textures. The interior features a juxtaposition of raw and refined elements, including desert stones, noble woods, and industrial metals. These materials reflect the local architectural heritage while embracing contemporary design. Notably, a custom curvilinear table for manicure services, crafted from deep grain burl wood, and sleek steel panels juxtaposed with exposed concrete columns, highlight the harmonious blend. A high-gloss lacquer finish wall insert and a mute-pink colour palette subtly hint at Four Spa’s brand identity, further enhancing the tranquil ambience.

The layout is both functional and aesthetically minded, incorporating rounded edges framed by straight lines and gridded patterns. A detailed stone tile floor showcases the diverse array of finishes. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the towering business district, intersected by brass chain curtains and semi-translucent drapery. These elements create a dynamic interplay of light and texture, enhancing the spa’s serene atmosphere.

Merging day spa, spinal clinic, pilates and yoga studios, Relinque is a holistic, inclusive wellness space anchored by intelligent planning and layered materials.

The scheme is further elevated by custom-designed furniture, including blue-hued bookcases and generous upholstered armchairs. Design classics, like the Gae Aulenti Pipistrello Table Lamp, are thoughtfully integrated as accents, adding a touch of elegance. The spa includes a pedicure area, a reading nook, and massage rooms with flexible partitions, ensuring a harmonious blend of privacy and openness. Each of the six private consultation and treatment rooms is appointed with monolith countertops and brass plumbing fixtures, maintaining a cohesive design language throughout the spa.

“My goal was to design an environment that could be both serene—a retreat if you will—and connected to its surroundings,” says Nebras AlJoaib of Nebras AlJoaib Creative Studio. “Working with the right materials, colours, and forms allowed me to accomplish both.”
