Confetti Credenza, 2014. The confetti marquetry pattern on this credenza bestows a playful quality to a serious piece. Door and drawer fronts use solid and veneered Maple. Hardware and base are made of solid blackened steel. Case is made of solid Ebonized Ash and built to last.Windsor Lounge Chair, 2014 is inspired by the proportions of a lounge chair. The dramatic bow back and low seat height are designed for comfort, while the black lacquer finish provides refinement to any setting. Constructed from Oak, Pine and Maple, the chair features hand-carved seat and arms.Aspect Floor & Table Lamp, 2014 are minimalist geometric compositions that showcase the quality and texture of the materials used. Weighted by a unique engineered marble base, the stems elegantly branch out in different formations, as their adjustable conical shades allude to distinct personalities. Shade and stem are composed of powdercoated steel accented by polished brass hardware.Hi-Lo Shelving, 2014 is equally sculptural and functional, this shelving piece pairs high and low materials to generate intrigue from a familiar stepped form. The contrasts in textures and colours create a graphic play between the fractured marble and common plywood.A Framed Mirror, 2013. The simple but dynamic triangular shape of this mirror is what allows it to transcend the common household object. The back of the mirror is painted a vibrant orange, which emanates a warm glow when reflected against a white wall.Summit Nesting Tables, 2013 is a set of multifunctional tables can also be used as shelving or as benches. The apex of the legs meets the table top in a unique joint, creating a strong and sturdy connection. Constructed in solid ash.Windsor Bench, 2013 is constructed of solid pine and maple, seat and crest rail are hand carved, turnings are hand lathed and legs are set with traditional tapered lock joint for increased stability. Moving Mountains is a Brooklyn-based design studio with a Hawaiian twist, established by designer Syrette Lew. As the company name suggests, Moving Mountains is a practice that wants to move beyond the boundaries of industrial design to the convergence of design, art, and fashion. The studio prides itself on creating a diverse range of hand-made products focused on a refined sense of simplicity and artful functionality.Since the launch, Lew has released timeless, classic designs from bags to jewellery, and now to her latest venture – furniture. All pieces are handmade and meticulously crafted from solid timber. Moving Mountains released their first furniture pieces in 2013, featuring the A Framed Mirror, Windsor Bench and Summit Nest tables. The idea behind this collection was inspired by Mies Van der Rohe’s quote, “An interesting plainness is the most difficult and precious thing to achieve.” All the pieces balance traditional woodworking techniques with playful touches of surface pattern and bright pops of colour.
