Mokum Textiles has unveiled its latest collection, Modern Art, featuring a sophisticated range of abstract patterns expressed through multifaceted prints, geometric weaves, and textured plains. The collection emerged from a renewed appreciation for creative boldness, particularly following recent global events that have shaped our collective perspective on design and artistic expression. The genesis of this collection goes back to Design Director Stephanie Moffitt’s pivotal visit to New York’s Metropolitan Museum and Museum of Modern Art in the post-pandemic period.Reflecting on her experience, Moffitt shares, “Having begun working on abstract print designs with the objective of adding more colour into our range, seeing these exhibitions consolidated our view of this direction. This groundbreaking group of artists and their intense works heralded a sense of the future following the seismic events of World War II, and the similarities of this period resonated strongly with our shared experience of 2020.” This Yellowtrace Promotion is supported by Mokum. Colour Field in Mineral. Assemblage in Pumice. “My visit to New York reinforced our desire to design textiles which embrace creativity with positivity and confidence.” —Stephanie Moffitt The collection’s standout pieces include Colour Field, which showcases expressive brushstrokes and rhythmic mark-making atop a colour-blocked foundation. Ronde offers a contemporary interpretation of diffused, cloudlike shapes that appear to dissolve into its transparent linen base. Completing the statement pieces is Assemblage, an unconventional collage that arranges embroidered abstract shapes and delicate fringing into an avant-garde stripe pattern.Moffitt’s inspiration deepened during her gallery visits: “I loved the over-scaled canvases, experimental paint techniques, and dynamic layering of colour. Although the exhibitions featured many iconic and influential artists whom I was familiar with, I did discover the work of Sam Gilliam and was mesmerized by his painted textile installations.”Community and Comfort Come Together in This Hybrid Workspace by House of Grey. This warm and nurturing workplace in London’s Shoreditch offers the comfort of a living space matched with the creative stimulation of a workplace.
