Mirrored Interior Installation by Inaki Abalos Celebrates The ‘Architecture of Interiors’.

‘INTERIOR’ is an immersive exhibition celebrating the ‘architecture of interiors’, curated by Inaki Abalos at The Spanish Pavilion, as part of the Venice Biennale (previously feature here). The purpose of the exhibition was to create discussion around the regeneration of Spain’s built heritage, raising issues around culture, spatial patterns, ancestry, heritage, design techniques and sustainability.

In collaboration with Manuel Ocaña and sio2arch, Ábalos created an ‘experience’ of 12 contemporary Spanish buildings, using large-scale photographs, section drawings and angular mirrors. Photographs by the esteemed Spanish photographer Jose Hevia were used, and students of the School of Architecture of Madrid drew up the sections. The resulting labyrinth of warped and distorted imagery creates a transcendent barrier-bending experience for visitors – chaotic, expressive and intense. Highlighting what makes Spanish architecture unique, as well as the materials and culture that shape the country’s approach to design, the dynamic exhibition firmly proves its point: there is no architecture without the interior.
