The studio subtly introduced organic curves and artisanal materials in a nod to the salon’s expertise, specialising in cutting and caring for curly hair.

Exposed brick and continuous terracotta micro cement walls and floors offer a nuanced backdrop, as exposed brick walls and glossy subway tiles create layers of copper-toned texture on top. Organic forms guide this eclectic arrangement of elements, creating pathways and different work zones.

Above, in the reception, Miriam Barrio Studio restored the Catalan-era vaulted ceiling and floral motif drawings found throughout the interior, inspiring the chromatic inspiration for the project while adding historical depth to the newly renovated space.

Lighting was a crucial element of the project. The studio used it to illuminate specific areas and highlight special features, like the restored frescoes and, more practically, to light the work area. Adding a flair, the lighting is one more feature that separates Curly Lab from a conventional hair salon. The arrangement of lighting elements also intensifies the salon’s atmosphere at night, enhancing the experience and highlighting the beauty of the architecture and space design.
