Australian brand Marz Designs unveils Aurelia, a new collection of contemporary lighting inspired by the graceful movement and mesmerising translucence of the ocean’s ‘moon jellyfish’.

Two-and-a-half years in development, the new lighting collection is defined by its distinctive bell-shaped translucent body. Much like its namesake—the moon jellyfish (aurelia aurita)—the delicate Aurelia floats effortlessly, offering an otherworldly ambience to any interior.

While most of Marz Designs’ previous collections have been forged from timber or ceramics, Aurelia marks a new direction—the materiality shifting to stone with the hardness of white and jade onyx retaining a feminine sensibility through its soft glow and gentle curves.

This celestial new range of residential and commercial lighting combines equal parts contemporary and classic through a chandelier style presence. Designed and assembled in Byron Bay, Aurelia is available in white and jade onyx stone in Surface Sconce, Pendant, Double Pendant, Double Pendant Offset and Wall options.

The Aurelia lighting collection launch coincides with Marz Designs’ new space unveiling in Byron Bay. Conceived as part-showroom, part-atelier, the spatial journey celebrates the maker—from design, to collaborations and the final assembly of the locally made products that form their range.

Marz Designs has recently opened an atelier and showroom in Byron Bay to allow customers the opportunity to physically experience their lights, furniture and homewares in person. All photos by Aaron Chapman.

“All Marz Designs products are designed in the studio, and we work with various makers, glassblowers, ceramicists, and timber turners to develop and produce the components that are then hand-assembled and packaged in Byron Bay,” explains director Coco Reynolds, who initially pursued a career in Industrial Design and Interior Design in Sydney, before relocating to Byron in 2019 to focus on establishing her brand. “The success of the studio is contingent upon these relationships and the many hands that combine to make one light.”

Marz Designs is a small team of six, hailing from diverse backgrounds, including fashion, interiors, and engineering. What they all have in common is a passion for delivering exceptional, enduring design quality.
