Martim Restaurant in Wroclaw, Poland Hospitality Design, Buck Studio | Yellowtrace

Martim is a Portuguese riverside restaurant in Wroclaw – its location and menu sparking off associations of voyages of geographical explorations. In Martim’s cuisine, Portuguese classics mingle with the great culinary inspirations derived from India, Brazil or Japan. A carefully compiled Portuguese wine list perfectly complements the chef’s own signature menu.

BUCK.STUDIO’s chosen colour palette vividly evokes the shades and tones of Portugal. Bright ocean greens and deep reds echo the rich Portuguese wine culture, while beige hues from cork panels serve as an homage to the material originating in the south of Portugal.

In addition to a well-defined colour scheme, the interior features a specific functional layout. There’s a completely open kitchen seen through the glass façade, giving the venue an unpretentious character.

All materials and equipment – steel wine cabinets, industrial bar, terrazzo floor and ceramic tiles – are reminiscent of the nearby river docks. This zone is connected with the dining area by a cork clad sideboard with burgundy coloured geometrical divisions providing a buffer between the two zones.

The dining area is set at the back of the restaurant. Due to expansive glazing facing three directions, the room draws the sceneries of the river and the town into the restaurant. The mirror wall panels reflect the panoramic views of Wrocław and incorporate them into the venue, giving the impression there is no boundary between the interior and the exterior.

The long teak timber floorboards reference a ship deck, and the perforated dark green ceiling reflects the waves of the river Odra.

Visual identity and tableware were an integral part of the design, their colours, materials and shapes correspond to the interior. The white crockery was made to order by a Portuguese artisan potter.

Martim is a Portuguese voyage experience, setting the stage between land and water – it’s interior giving the outside world equal presence. A place, where the feeling of intimacy subtly merges with the view seen from the window.
