Far from its name suggests Abstinence Restaurant by Lizée-Hugot Studio is all about pleasure. Reinterpreting a classic style the studio paired materials typical of a classic Parisian brasserie with a good dose of 70’s sleaze in this elegant eatery that’s all about intimacy. The restaurant is the first project completed by the Parisian studio, founded this year by long time collaborators and friends Stéphanie Lizée and Raphael Hugot. Working as a ying-yang duo, the designers create a singular unified vocabulary through custom-designed furniture and deliberate and frank colour and material choices.Located in Paris on Rive Gauche, near École Militaire and a stone’s throw from the Eiffel tower the studio dreamed up an open kitchen wrapped by a large central bar for dining with a “wine cellar spirit” and stellar dining counter.Combining smooth and brushed textures, the studio revisited materials typical of a brasserie such as leather, marble, a lacquered ceiling and wood panelling and coupled them with references to the 1970s from the birdseye maple, olive and cognac toned leather to the archetypal tubular steel furniture. By balancing the interior design with modernist-inspired furniture the space conjures up a cinematic vibe that feels at home on the Paris streets. Silver-plated candelabra’s and globe-shaped wall lights round out the cosy French bistro ambience. But what’s a chic Parisian brasserie without an outside terrace? True to form the restaurant’s retro glamour spills outside, protected from the weather by glass panels, and armed with a grid of olive leather tubular steel-framed chairs. The perfect spot to while an afternoon away people-watching. Related: Papi Restaurant in Paris by Neri&Hu.
