Lahaus & Templewell have collaborated on the design for a travel tech company in Singapore, revitalising the offices‘ tired social and gathering spaces. Designed for longevity, the interior references local architectural texture and form to create spaces for connection that are grounded in place.“We drew inspiration on materiality, form and texture [from] Downtown Singapore’s skyline. With our design embedded in place, the concept fosters a strong sense of belonging, and encourages moments that bring us closer together as a global community,” explains Lahaus’ Creative Director Lara Staunton. The ambience of the Town Hall is captivating with an interplay of colours, intriguing forms, and textures infusing the space with depth. The strong architectural forms work to create intimate zones within the open floor plan—architectural columns divide space; sweeping arches link areas while providing moments of pause underneath, and suspended canopies are layered over conversational furniture. “Connecting people to experience is at the heart of our client’s business. With a considered balance of welcoming, invigorating, and calming spaces, we have facilitated a positive celebration of community built on shared experiences,” Lara continues. Local stone and terrazzo, durable cork and rubber flooring frame the interior, contrasting with exposed textured ceilings. Handmade elements incorporated with feature lighting in glazed porcelain by Michael Anastassiades and a rough clay with crackle glaze by Melbourne-based artist Sarah Nedovic. As the materials wear over time and develop a lived-in patina, it will only enhance the character of the space and foster a workplace to be cherished rather than thrown away.“As designers, we hold the power to foster connections, strengthen our community, and promote well-being through thoughtful design. Witnessing this successful transformation and the rapid positive change it has brought to the workplace is truly rewarding,” Lara concludes. [Images courtesy of Lahaus & Templewell.
