The evolution of Sydney’s unique and unrivalled Barangaroo precinct into the city’s most in-demand new dining destination continues as Zushi opens the doors to its latest restaurant offering – Zushi Barangaroo. The striking venue has been designed by Koichi Takada Architects, arguably one of Australia’s most celebrated architecture practices, having won multiple local and international design competitions and awards in recent years.

Koichi Takada has brought a refined Japanese sensibility to Australian design and architecture, perfectly melding the two with the Zushi aesthetic, forming the ultimate partnership for a stylish and welcoming restaurant space. The dining area at Zushi Barangaroo is uniquely all outdoors, presenting an ideal space to dine in front of beautiful Sydney Harbour. The outdoor area is designed to cope with all round weathers with sun shading, wind protection, heaters and operable roof louvers.

The design team drew inspiration from the Japanese traditional space of iyashi, where one comes to find a sense of peace, an escape from hectic city lifestyle. The use of natural timber panels and crafted timber furniture welcomes customers into a dining sanctuary embraced by soft planting and Koichi Takada Architects’ signature design of warm timber materiality. The design team blend the natural and industrial aesthetics, seamlessly connecting with the original characters of Barangaroo wharf. The industrial materiality of concrete, terrazzo and metal accentuates the natural warmth of the timber feature. Everywhere the customers touch and feel is also designed with raw and warm timber material, inspired by the tradition of Japanese restaurants.

Zushi Barangaroo is designed with sustainable elements in alignment with Lendlease’s ambition for Green Star rating. Environmentally friendly materials, fittings and fixtures were carefully selected. The team consciously choose materials with low gaseous emissions, durable materials and non-endangered timber species.
