New York’s Parts and Labor Design have branched out into collectible furniture with their new venture Known Work. An ode to gathering and conversation, co-founders Jeremy Levitt and Danu Kennedy were inspired by the idea of a home as an aesthetic extension of oneself. Calling upon 20-plus years of shared expertise, the duo examined which characteristics of an object make them feel most at home.“We wanted to design our collections as vignettes, a collection of objects that have a relationship to one another. They can be purchased as a grouping or as single pieces.” Danu elaborates. “We tend to be holistic in the way we think of furniture design and interior design; imagining the room a piece will exist within and how that dictates some of the decisions we make in terms of materials and more.”Spearheaded with their Creative Director Alex DiLena, the result led them to their nine-piece debut collection, KW 01 Perceptions, which presents a tension and contrast articulated in a mix of objects, seating, lighting and artefacts. Elegant geometries are paired with soft materials. Scales are balanced and varied. And an acute attention to detail supports each piece’s intuitive, highly functional purpose.‘Amuse Bouche’ Debut Collection of Furniture and Accessories by Hauvette & Madani.Dripping in sex appeal the duo reconnects with the tradition of decorators from the 20s and 30s with travel and decadence... It was a test of our own flexibility as designers,” Alex explains. The collection is a natural continuation of Parts and Labour, many design projects they have worked on as Parts and Labour, having created fully custom and novel elements and works for many of their interior projects. Designed to be collected, cherished and envied, all pieces are made and distributed in the US.
