Sydney-based studio Klaro Industrial Design (K.I.D) has identified a gap in the commercial fit-out market—a need for a round pedestal base table that comfortably accommodates power services in its top, with completely concealed reticulation. Something that’s not easily met with the current product ranges available.

While working through manufacturing methodology, the studio aimed not only to create a fully recyclable piece of furniture, but also to ensure the power box with its services was an integral part of the design intent rather than an afterthought.

Manufactured in Sydney, a two-piece mild steel table construction can be powder coated to Dulux or Interpon standard colours with optional melamine top variation. Where power access is required, a custom lid finished in American Oak is sourced from a local furniture maker, adding a crafted and purposeful accessory to the tabletop. This approach is very much in line with something that’s heard a lot around the K.I.D studio.

“We are looking to apply a ‘slow fashion’ philosophy to commercial interior products, to reduce landfill and support local manufacturing,” says K.I.D’s founder and creative director, Alona Klaro.

With a concise product range that spans seating, storage, tables and workstations, Alona has drawn on her own experience across the fields of architectural design and commercial fit-out. This is underpinned by the studio’s collective manufacturing expertise and best corporate practices of its partners.

Building on this solid foundation, the studio’s proprietary components and custom solutions are punctuated with design energy and holistic integrity.

“We feel it’s our duty to clients to ensure we consider manufacturing origin and materials, an items life span, its impact on the user and the environment. Whether it’s a one-off custom item or a product from our range,” explains Alona.

At the core of K.I.D’s values is the understanding the term ‘design intent’ applies to the process, as much as the visual language and end result. Each product released in the market serves a purpose and solves a problem, be it a physical or a systemic one.
