In Albert Park’s heritage conservation area, PR Residence by Inglis Architects strikes a thoughtful balance between modern living and historical respect that honours the neighbourhood’s established character.A pair of wanderlust-filled clients approached Inglis with a clear brief: “Give us a low-maintenance home we can lock up and leave.“ And so to work they went, knowing that a low-maintenance home didn’t mean one that was low on vibes. The home’s exterior combines off-form concrete with custom Spanish bricks, allowing it to blend seamlessly with surrounding heritage cottages. Charlie Inglis, Founder and Director of Inglis Architects, explains, “The handmade brick has a real warmth to it—the result of rigorous prototyping with the supplier.”Villain House in Barcelona by Architecture Office Claudia Raurell. On the northern slope of Barcelona’s Montjuic, the Villain House is a striking example of thoughtful design. By embracing both the old and the new, this project offers a compelling vision of sustainable and contextually aware urban living. On the western façade, cleverly positioned openings optimise views and maintain privacy. A striking arched entryway creates a memorable first impression. Inglis describes it as forming “an intimate courtyard that tempers exposure and creates a sense of arrival.” A custom steel gate and oxidised brass door add distinctive character to the exterior, further distinguishing the residence.Step inside and prepare to swoon while encountering several standout design features. A sculptural staircase and marble mosaic floor in the entryway set the stage for the interior spaces. Bedrooms and a courtyard occupy the ground floor, while upstairs living areas connect to city views. The living area’s pitched ceilings, according to Inglis, aim to create “a feeling of generosity and abundance.”A Heritage Home for Modern Living: Courtyard House by Atelier M.Courtyard House is a transformation of a Heritage listed Federation Queen Anne style home. The project brief was clear: to enhance the connection between the house and its garden, improve privacy, and sculpt sunlight into the living spaces. PR Residence incorporates practical elements to meet the client’s desire for a low-maintenance, lock-up-and-leave home. Durable materials, minimal eaves, and a straightforward roof form contribute to reduced upkeep requirements. A basement level adds extra oomph with a kids’ playroom, laundry, and cellar. The inclusion of a lift allows for aging in place, showcasing a considerate, future-proof design.Steel-framed windows throughout the home contribute to its contemporary aesthetic while welcoming ample natural light. Speaking of light, a broad skylight washes the interior with a glow that’s practically heavenly. It’s the kind of thoughtful touch that elevates a space from great to absolutely unforgettable.Subtle Fluidity Meets Rigorous Precision at Hawthorn East Residence by Adrian Amore Architects.Hawthorn East Residence displays a thoughtful integration of fluid design elements with the existing Edwardian architecture.
