Smac Studio has collaborated with Australian brand Hali Rugs on the exclusive new Icons collection. The Sydney-based interior design practice drew inspiration from the Art Deco movement on a rug series that marries decadent shades with a lustrous finish.“I was in Paris when I designed these — I was seeing lots of beautiful tile patterns and complimentary colours that inspired me,” said Shona McElroy, Smac’s Director. “I wanted the shapes to be geometric and interesting, but also easy to style around and to belong in different home styles and rooms.”With Smac Studio’s designs taking centre stage, Hali Rugs leveraged decades of rug manufacturing expertise on a collection that blends luxury with accessibility. The result is a range of high-quality, durable rugs tailored for modern homes.Sense of Direction: Alpha60 X Brendan Huntley at the Heide Museum of Modern Art.An installation of paintings, sculptures, monotypes, rugs and clocks together explore the transience of personal transformation... The collection doesn’t break the bank either, focusing on offering the beauty of a custom-made designer rug at an affordable price. “To make the pieces affordable yet retain high durability, we opted to produce these in a commercially graded hand-tufted quality. This allowed the pieces to be executed perfectly and consistently while making them really dense and luxurious,” explains Hali Rugs managing director Dan Swart. Each piece is named after an iconic interior designer from the early 20th century, like Dorothy Draper, Elsie de Wolfe, Billy Baldwin and David Hicks—a nod to timeless elegance that’s distinctly contemporary. All pieces in the collection are made from top-grade pure New Zealand wool, featuring blends of bamboo silk and Tencel, giving each rug beautiful, light-reflective qualities.
