Melbourne-based Interior Design Studio Golden has completed Laurent bakery in Ivanhoe, the sixth store for the pastry brand. Centred around the art of patisserie, the space harmonises Australian cafe culture with heritage Parisian patisseries.Golden drew upon several surrounding factors for design inspiration, including the leafy streets of the Ivanhoe suburb and the neighbouring architectural icon Heide Museum. Taking cues from the boho-Modernist Heide II, designed by McGlashan and Everist, earth tones and a sense of mystery became focal points of the ideation phase for the design team.Communicating this through mosaic floors and timber ceilings, complemented by furnishings from local designers, including Grazia & co and DesignByThem, Golden fused this local homage with classic French patisserie imagery by drawing upon various Viennoiseries (a French breakfast pastry, for those not in the know) as circular motifs to ground the layout of the space.Bakery Archives.Explore our global edit of some of our favourite bakery interior, from hospitality to retail, from the Yellowtrace archives. With the interior expansion doubling the space, Golden was able to create zones for a mixed variety of dining and to show off Laurent’s recently expanded product offering.“It is important we maintain Laurent’s heritage and its longevity in the industry. It’s a very familiar brand to its current and loyal clientele, and we need to honour that,” elaborates Golden’s Director, Kylie Buhagiar. “We have ensured there is consistency and consideration across each store through key signature design elements, whilst also ensuring each fit-out is unique in response to the space and location.”The store follows in a long line of locations designed by the Melbourne studio including locations in South Yarra, Kew, Albert Park, Brighton and Doncaster.Far From Ordinary: Baker Bleu Double Bay by IF Architecture. The space reflects the authenticity and quality of the product, using materials and gestures that feel familiar but are elevated through simplicity...
