Givenchy’s latest flagship store was always destined for awesome. With a much sought after location in Paris, and Joseph Dirand as the collaborator, the label’s creative director, Riccardo Tisci, was making all the right calls from the get go.Inspired by Givenchy’s original black box packaging, the store is a series of smaller compartmentalised spaces, with intimacy holding the highest currency. The designers fearlessly embrace low slung ceilings and enclosed spaces. Each space is a tight package of thoughtfully composed, rich materials: white marble, lava stone, bronze, carbonized timber and felted carpet. Materiality is central to every inch. The rear face of hanging racks? Marble. Even the drawer fronts are stone clad. Luxury materials are found on every surface, but always sculpted in a controlled, deliberate manner. Ah yes, we can always count on Dirand to satiate a hunger for beautiful materials – and to do it masterfully.With this store being the first of 26 new one planned internationally, I’m preparing my eyes for more visual pleasure of this variety.
