Designed as a forever home, this two-storey Edwardian home in the inner suburbs of Melbourne is dedicated to family, cooking and entertaining. With a decadent palette of layered objects, art, textures and design classics the project is the embodiment of what Flack Studio, a stalwart star on the Australian design scene, is all about.Already familiar with the studio’s work—thanks to a friend’s referral—the relationship extended beyond client-designer and became a true collaboration. “They wanted a space that felt timeless; they didn’t want the space to feel ‘new’,” explained David Flack, Principal of the Fitzroy institution. This happens to be David’s wheelhouse and the design team responded with a warm and inviting space ensconced in family history—that also delivered on function. The floorplan was altered to allow for a powder room while focusing on spatial planning to ensure that the home functions for two adults and two teenagers. In the spacious open kitchen, mixed timber cabinets are paired with a white-veined burgundy kitchen island. The studio also custom-designed a banquette seat that seamlessly connects the newly reconfigured floor plan with the original layout. An ideal space to entertain guests, this is clearly the heart of the home.Love Letter to Sydney: Potts Point Residence by Flack Studio.Inspired by the original heritage interior and committed to maintaining its essence, the design explores the use of contrasting stones, finishes... The living area plays to the Edwardian strengths of the property with pink walls and primary accents, a custom credenza, a vintage Murano glass chandelier and deep red linen curtains. Here you can find Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni’s pink bicycle-seat stool and off the hallway, Ettore Sottsass’s Ultrafragola—a piece beyond Instagram saturated yet in this context, feels just right. In the ensuite, the decadence only continues with pigmented green marble matched with crystal sconces. The exploration of geometries and custom design played a significant role in the design of the home. “We were fortunate enough to custom design every inch of this home, from the stair balustrade to the bar to the lighting pendant over the kitchen island,” David explains, “This project is the culmination of years of growth from our studio—it represents the relationships we have built with all our collaborators and clients and the maturity of our designs.”A Tactile Haven: Black Diamond by YSG Studio.Nestled in Sydney's picturesque suburb of Mosman, this three-storey family home has undergone a remarkable transformation...
