Febrero Studio is back with a new charming interior for us to explore. The Madrid-based architecture and design practice has completed a complete refurbishment of this 250 square metre apartment, located on the fourth floor of a heritage-listed building in the Chamberí neighbourhood of Madrid.Founded by Mercedes González Ballesteros and Jesús Díaz Osuna in 2016, Febrero Studio is a multidisciplinary practice working across the spheres of architecture, interior design and applied branding. The studio focuses on creating warm and personal spaces that are functional and help clients reinvent themselves through design, through a variety of projects including offices, hotels, restaurants, homes and private clinics. For this project, González Ballesteros and Díaz demolished the home in its entirety except for the load-bearing walls. A new ambitious program—including 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 1 powder room, kitchen, living room with dining area, second living room and a kitchenette—was adapted to the existing openings, as well as to the damp cores of the house. On one side sits a powder room and living/dining area, while on the other side are spacious four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a second living room and a kitchenette. All the original mouldings as well as the timber windows were respected and restored. A limited palette of noble materials—Walnut timber, Oak parquetry and travertine—is utilised with a restraint that makes the nostalgic feel contemporary. The selected materials and furniture seek to renew the space without losing its essence and character.VH Apartment Madrid by Febrero Studio.Making use of a warm material palette offset by unexpected contrasts, the designers establish a clever balance between heritage, contemporary design and bold ideas...
