Ewert Leaf has designed the latest outpost of the hugely popular croissanterie Lune in Armadale, Melbourne. In keeping the overall brand aesthetic, the space is void of all visual noise, purely focusing on the craft of croissant making.More akin to a gallery typology rather than a traditional bakery, Ewert Leaf reengineered the Lune’s iconic palette to create unique synergies between stainless steel, aged brass, artisan render and polished glass. Concrete became the glue, and anchor to strengthen the relationship between each finish.“Each individual Lune croissant represents creativity, precision, and innovative thinking. Therefore, instinctively, we delved into these key themes, unpacked them, and ultimately crafted a curated interior that focused on framing each individual pastry,” explains the Ewert Leaf design team. Directional spots highlight a distinct row of meticulously placed, golden pastries, the raw concrete below them forming the perfect canvas. Upon being greeted and placing an order, the customer is then invited to explore the tactile interior, interacting with a variety of textured surfaces. Achieving the perfect balance between positive and negative space around each design insertion was paramount.Lune’s practice breaks traditional methods and convention, making way for progressive thinking and ingenuity. It is how this notion has been translated into a physical space that will ultimately evoke curiosity and intrigue from the local Armadale community, passers-by and customers.
