Based in Byron Bay, Pampa is a design brand that works directly with skilled artisans in remote and rural Argentina on the finest quality hand-woven textiles. A year in the making, their latest collection, Eclipse, pays homage to universal symbols of the sun and moon, and their representations across art, craft, design and architecture.Taking its cues from the influential design and art movement Bauhaus, Eclipse is an exercise in bold colour and architectural form.“My admiration for shape studies comes from my younger days spent wandering the streets and observing the architecture of Buenos Aires,” says Pampa Co-founder, Victoria Aguirre. “Then, while studying Design at University, we experimented with colour compositions and various forms of the Bauhaus art school. After visiting the town of Arcosanti in Arizona in 2019 and seeing how celestial symbols had informed an architectural masterpiece, I was inspired to explore this in the design of a new collection.” Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 23 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 22 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 26 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 24 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 25 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 21 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 01 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 02 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 03 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 04 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 05 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 06 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 07 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 08 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 10 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 12 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 13 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 14 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 16 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 17 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 18 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 19 Th Eclipse Rug Collection Pampa Yellowtrace 20 A contemporary interpretation uses a series of full and half discs to symbolise the sources of energy and light in our solar system, essential to life on earth. Pampa’s signature earthy tones examine contrasting and complementary colours, inspired by the interplay of light and shadow during an eclipse. The circular shapes were a completely new design for our Andes artisan weavers, who hand-weave using luxuriously soft sheep’s wool. Each rug takes many hours to complete and is entirely unique in its craftsmanship. In many parts of Argentina, natural dyes, patterns inspired by nature and the traditions of manual weaving are slowly fading away. Pampa is committed to rediscovering threatened cultures and reviving lost traditions, supporting skilled artisans in remote Argentina and beyond to produce homewares and accessories that are woven works of art.
