To be completely honest, I’m not quite sure what’s going on here, but it makes me laugh and sometimes that all a girl needs. ‘Doublefaced’ is an ongoing series of experimental portraits by Berlin-based artist Sebastian Bieniek where a second (or a third) face is painted with make-up on the side of the model’s face. While the idea seems ridiculously simple, the actual result is a super bizarre, off-kilter series of photos that will give you the heebie jeebies. This curious and thought provoking project alludes to the duality of human nature and challenge our ideas of beauty. In a sense, Bieniek goes Picasso on his models’ portraits, drawing alternate faces on their heads and using parts of their features — primarily the eyes and hair — to create portraits with unique expressions and an illustrative sensibility. I don’t know about you, but I would absolutely freak out if one of these faces was gazing at me on the street or on the bus.Related Posts: A Scanner Darkly // Dazed & Confused, June 2012 Issue.
