DesignOffice have lent their sharp design skills to Mud Australia on the opening of their second Melbourne store, located on High St in Armadale. Housed in a former hairdressing salon, the quietly confident and personable space reflects the understated elegance and timeless design synonymous with the leading Australian porcelain brand.

The design of the interior builds upon the language established in Mud Australia’s Sydney, New York and London stores. Iconic Vitsoe shelving systems showcase the full range of hand-made porcelain, while providing a warm and welcoming environment for customers and staff. Refined tables by Barber Osgerby sit alongside DesignOffice’s bespoke joinery expertly crafted by JP Finsbury. HI-MACS from Laminex countertops in crisp white provide a smooth and seamless contrast with the timber.

A large round table by Coco Flip is the striking hero of the space. Using upcycled concrete and waste porcelain pieces from Mud’s own production, a custom-made terrazzo top was produced by Five Mile Radius. Mud’s porcelain pendants hang from the ceiling while the entire range, ordered by colour, fills the interior.

“This new store has wonderful bones, with high ceilings, abundant natural light and exposed brick walls,” says Mark Simpson of DesignOffice. “Crafted timber joinery elements are introduced to anchor the space and guide the journey through the chromatic spectrum of the Mud Australia range. The resulting setting is a warm and tactile place where people can find calm inspiration as they explore and enjoy the product.”

“The new Armadale store is simply a glorious space. With its double-height ceilings, there is a beautiful sense of space and light,” says Shelley Simpson, Founder of Mud Australia. “It’s really important to me that our stores are grounded – I always want them to be calming yet quietly inspiring spaces.”
