Designed by Christina Bricknell and Gibson Karlo for DesignByThem, the new Olio Arcmchair invites us to take a seat. Composed of sweeping curves, plush modules and a carefully constructed framework, Olio balances personality with optimum comfort to deliver a modern and striking form.“Focusing on the organic contours of the human figure, the Olio Armchair has been designed to emphasise the relationship between form and support,” says Christina Bricknell. “The continuity of curved and cylindrical components provide a softly sculpted cohesion and playfulness that highlights an intricate yet minimal design.”Christina is a furniture designer and maker based in Melbourne, who upon graduating from the ANU School of Art, established her design studio focusing on exploring human, object and material interactions to create dynamic, sculptural and tactile pieces. She also lectures and tutors process-driven furniture design at the University of Melbourne. Related: DesignByThem Introduces August Lounge Collection by Gibson Karlo. Aesthetically minimal, we wanted to ensure that Olio would retain a sense of personality and timelessness.”Behind its minimal design, Olio is carefully constructed with hidden fixings to allow the appearance of a floating lumbar and headrest. In addition to the ergonomics and comfort, the armchair is designed for future sustainability, allowing its owner to easily reupholster or replace parts after a long period of use.For more information on Olio, visit designbythem.com/olio-armchair.
