Brian DeMuro and Puru Das, of design studio DeMuro Das, have unveiled the Demi and Gem capsule collections. Inspired by India’s centuries-old jewellery-making traditions, the five-piece offering features mirrors, cabinets, and tables clad in semi-precious stone, pushing the boundaries between fine jewellery and art.The studio’s stone-working atelier allows the designers to experiment with a variety of semi-precious stones seldom seen in furniture. Stone marquetry comprising rare finishes such as claret dolomite, vesuvianite, and howlite enhances the vivid beauty underlying these materials. Through couture-like techniques from their master craftspeople and thoughtful material selection, the lines between multiple stone pieces become invisible to the eye, morphing into a singular carved stone piece.“This is the most extensive semi-precious stone collection we have created to date,” said Puru Das, co-founder of DeMuro Das. “The intricacies of the stonework and craftsmanship required added to the complexity of creating this collection which took several years to perfect. So we are thrilled that we can finally present this collection to the public.”DeMuro Das Launches Corbu Collection. An exploration of sculptural form and rhythmic movement, the Corbu Cabinets and Benches take direct inspiration from the duo’s travels. The frameless biomorphic shape of the Gem Mirror features a chunk of roughly finished howlite stone encased in solid cast bronze, a technique reminiscent of a bevel setting in jewellery. A circle of textured cast bronze is inset into the mirror’s opposite corner, creating a balance between these two elements. The Demi Collection gets its name from the irregularly placed cylindrical legs that are bisected and inset into its rounded tops, forming a half-circle at each joint. As with the Gem Collection, the Demi is clad in semi-precious stones, utilising moss green vesuvianite for the side table, and claret dolomite for the coffee table.Interpreting Conviviality: SUNNEI and Bloc Studios’ Marble Dining Room Objects. The material-driven approach resulted in a collaborative collection transforming typically dining room objects into one-of-a-kind marble pieces...
