Brian DeMuro and Puru Das, founders of New Delhi and New York-based design firm DeMuro Das, unveil their latest collection of work – the Corbu Collection. An exploration of sculptural form and rhythmic movement, the Corbu Cabinets and Benches take direct inspiration from the duo’s travels. From Libera’s Casa Malaparte to the graphic motifs of Le Corbusier’s mural paintings, the latest collection from DeMuro Das references the world as Brian DeMuro and Puru Das see it.The solid form of the Corbu Cabinet is defined by rhythmically placed handles while architectural legs lend support and an unexpected element of asymmetry. Proportions are dialled in for the bedside table which brings a sense of grandeur to an often-overlooked piece in the furniture market. Both storage pieces are sheathed in Carta, a sustainable alternative to parchment discovered by Das and DeMuro while sourcing for an interiors project in previous years. Like any organic material, the movement and markings of each sheet are entirely unique. A defining sculptural base offers a continued exploration of movement and tension in both large and small sizes. The design features a domed seat that blends into its contoured solid wood base.“A study of the perfect proportions of the fireplace at Adalberto Libera’s Casa Malaparte informed the graceful relationship between horizontal and vertical design elements explored throughout the Corbu Collection,” says Brian DeMuro, “Allowing these elements to sit in tension against one another enabled us to build a sense of restrained drama we often seek in our work.”For more information on the Corbu Collection visit demurodas.com Related: Louise Liljencrantz Launches Veermakers Design Brand.
