David Thulstrup has created a new leather collection for Sørensen Leather, including a three-piece limited-edition collection of hybrid objects that showcase the potential of the finish in objects for the home.Responding to the world that’s in a current state of flux in which we are experiencing a paradigm shift in our relationship with our surroundings and our sense of wellbeing, Thulstrup embraces the concept of materiality as the cornerstone of this practice and this approach to this project. The sensory experience of touching the surface texture and taking in the colours was key, giving us the opportunity to re-connect with natural materials. The changing landscape of our lives has ushered in a new narrative about design that is simple but significant, where we seek objects with meaning and that are responsibly produced via sustainable measures.“I partnered with Sørensen Leather to explore what we all need to sustain ourselves in terms of our personal space,” says Copenhagen based architect and designer. “Established in 1973, Sørensen Leather is a global brand with some of the most high-end, sought-after leather in the world.” David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 01 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 02 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 03 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 04 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 05 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 06 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 07 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 08 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 09 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 10 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 11 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 12 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 13 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 14 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Landscapes Yellowtrace 15 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Flux Yellowtrace 16 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Flux Yellowtrace 17 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Flux Yellowtrace 18 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Flux Yellowtrace 19 David Thulstrup Sorensen Leather Flux Yellowtrace 20 The outcome is a fresh take on a furniture landscape, comprised of essentials for interiors that blur the boundaries between living, working and socialising. The overall aesthetic is minimalistic, allowing for leather to step into the foreground. Each piece is crafted with FLUX®, a collection David developed in close collaboration with Sørensen Leather. It’s a new type of protected leather that resembles nubuck with a matt look akin to neoprene, featuring a velvety-soft surface with a muted effect that’s ultra-modern. Natural, honest hues are interspersed with select vibrant tones especially suitable for architectural interiors. Colours that have a strong identity individually yet curated to work harmoniously together as an ensemble.“The fusion of concepts—specifically, nubuck and neoprene—that we have worked with when creating FLUX® inspired us to take it one step further and celebrate the beauty of leather through three limited-edition design objects,” explains David. “The leather and its different hues allowed for different material combinations that are unexpected but true to my design approach. The outcome is a vertical application, a horizontal surface and an upholstered object ideal for contemporary but timeless settings.” See more projects by Studio David Thulstrup on Yellowtrace.
