Daniel Steegmann Mangrané‘s practice covers various media and oscillates between subtle, poetic and raw experimentations that question the relationship between the language and the world. Although mainly conceptually informed, his installations engage the imagination of the spectator and attempt to articulating unstable meaning. His work develops thematically, with geometric shapes and human interaction playing important roles.Streaming from the ceiling like coloured rain, Steegmann’s steel curtain installations are far less delicate than they appear. Up close, the completely see-through curtain of steel mesh look like raindrops stitched together, punctuated by geometric laser cutouts framed in powder-coated steel. The cutouts are painted in a contrasting neon shades against the primary colours of the mesh. Some of the openings are sufficiently large for the viewer to pass silently through. In other instances, the cutouts are positioned at eye level, in which case the viewer must walk straight through the mesh, causing a metallic clinking sound that offers a full sensory experience.Daniel Steegman Mangrané lives and works in Rio de Janiero.
